Strategy (MSTR) has taken another step back from its 'buy-only' strategy by selling 1,637 BTC worth $102.3 million.
According to cryptocurrency media outlet U.Today on August 3 (local time), Strategy disposed of 1,637 BTC last week. Following the sale, its Bitcoin holdings decreased to 842,138 BTC. The value of its held assets was estimated at approximately $52.65 billion.
Michael Saylor stated that this sale does not signify a change in the long-term Bitcoin investment strategy. He explained it as a measure for corporate fund management. Saylor said, “We increased our dollar reserves by $250 million and repurchased STRC worth $81 million,” adding, “The duration of dollar reserve maintenance has increased by 57 days to 2.3 years.” As of August 2, Strategy held $4 billion in dollar reserves along with Bitcoin.
Since 2026, Strategy has deviated from its previous policy of only buying Bitcoin. The company sold 32 BTC in May to fund preferred stock dividends. Subsequently, from June 29 to July 5, it disposed of 3,588 BTC to replenish dollar reserves and meet dividend obligations. This time, an additional 1,637 BTC were sold.
Despite successive sales, Strategy still holds the largest amount of Bitcoin among companies worldwide. Its holdings account for approximately 4.01% of the total projected Bitcoin supply. The company stated that the Bitcoin sales are not due to weakening investment confidence but are measures to secure funds necessary for corporate investments, preferred stock obligations, and capital management.
