Bybit has filed a civil lawsuit against North Korea, its foreign intelligence agency Reconnaissance General Bureau (RGB), and hacker group Lazarus in connection with the $1.5 billion hack that occurred last year. According to CoinDesk, Bybit filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia and, along with it, obtained a preliminary injunction prohibiting the transfer or disposal of specific assets related to the incident during the ongoing litigation. Bybit CEO Ben Zhou explained, "Our goal is to prioritize user protection, recover as much as possible, and hold those behind these attacks accountable. The Lazarus attack was not just an attack on Bybit. It was an attack that shook trust in our industry. That's why we have been working closely with investigators, exchanges, regulators, law enforcement, and now the courts." He added, "We will request additional relief from the court in the future." The civil lawsuit is explained to proceed separately from the ongoing criminal investigation by U.S. law enforcement authorities. In February of last year, the Lazarus Group stole approximately $1.5 billion worth of Ethereum from Bybit.
