BNB has risen to become the largest weighted asset in Grayscale's fund, surpassing Ethereum (Ethereum, ETH) and Solana (Solana, SOL).
According to crypto media outlet BeInCrypto on August 6 (local time), Grayscale Investments newly included BNB in the Q2 rebalancing of its Smart Contract Platform Fund. BNB's weighting was set at 30.6%. This adjustment was announced on August 5 and applied from August 3.
Ethereum, which was ranked first in the previous rebalancing, saw its weighting decrease from 30.14% to 29.47%. Solana's weighting was adjusted from 29.69% to 29.15%. While the weighting of the two assets did not change significantly, they relinquished their leading positions with the inclusion of BNB. Grayscale stated that it sold existing holdings according to their weight and purchased BNB with the secured funds.
Cardano (Cardano, ADA) was the asset with the largest decrease in weighting. Cardano's weighting plummeted from 17.96% in May to 4.88% in August. The weightings of Hedera (Hedera, HBAR), Avalanche (Avalanche, AVAX), and Sui (Sui, SUI) also fell below 2.1% each. The fund determines asset weightings based on market capitalization but applies individual asset inclusion limits and adjusts its composition quarterly.
Changes also appeared in the Decentralized Finance Fund. Ondo (Ondo, ONDO)'s weighting rose from 19.83% to 25.44%, making it the second-largest asset, surpassing Aave (Aave, AAVE). Grayscale allocated funds secured by selling some Uniswap (Uniswap, UNI) to other constituent assets. Uniswap maintained its largest weighting at 34.16% even after the adjustment.
This rebalancing expanded from the previous two funds to three funds. In the Decentralized Artificial Intelligence Fund, Near Protocol (Near Protocol, NEAR) held the highest weighting at 31.35%. Bittensor (Bittensor, TAO) followed with 29.15%, and Render (RENDER) and Filecoin (Filecoin, FIL) were also included.
