The U.S. cryptocurrency market structure bill could come to a Senate vote as early as Friday. However, Senate leadership must initiate cloture proceedings by Wednesday.
According to crypto media outlet CoinGeape on August 3 (local time), the U.S. Senate resumed legislative activity that day. However, the U.S. cryptocurrency market structure bill has not yet been included in the plenary session agenda. The cloture vote scheduled for 5:30 PM is also a procedure related to H.R. 6500 and is not related to the bill number H.R. 3633.
Cryptocurrency analyst Ted Pillows explained that if Senate leadership introduces a cloture motion on Wednesday, the earliest possible vote would be Friday. He stated, “Senators have little time left to begin debate on the bill before leaving Washington.” The Senate will begin its recess on August 10.
Chris Barrett, Senior Director of Communications at Chainlink, stated that the possibility of a vote this week has not yet disappeared. Barrett said, “There remains a possibility that a cloture vote on the U.S. cryptocurrency market structure bill could take place this week,” adding, “However, the schedule is not yet confirmed or officially announced.”
The U.S. cryptocurrency market structure bill passed the House of Representatives in July 2025 with 294 votes in favor and 134 against. The Senate Banking Committee also passed the bill in May 2026 with 15 votes in favor and 9 against. U.S. Senator Cynthia Lummis unveiled an amendment on July 22 and recently stated that a procedural vote would take place this week.
To end debate and move to consideration of the bill in the Senate, 60 votes are typically required. Even if all 53 Republican senators vote in favor, at least 7 votes must be secured from Democrats. The participation of Democratic senators is a key variable that will determine the possibility of a Friday vote and the bill's passage.
