Building an AI defense system, preventing 15.8 trillion won worth of damage over one year
Global virtual asset exchange Binance announced on the 28th that virtual asset crimes exploiting recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) technology are rampant, and that it has prevented 15 trillion won worth of damage over the past year by operating its defense system.
According to Binance Research, the global scale of virtual asset fraud last year is estimated to be 17 billion dollars (approximately 25.5646 trillion won), a 30% increase from the previous year.
Binance analyzed that the cost of executing AI fraud attacks has significantly decreased, creating an environment where large-scale fraud can be carried out without specialized technical skills.
Crimes such as deepfakes, phishing bots, fake platforms, voice cloning, and impersonation are rapidly spreading, and the success rate of attacks by advanced AI models is understood to reach 72.2%.
Binance explained that by building a comprehensive AI defense system, it blocked 22.9 million fraud attempts in the first quarter of this year alone and contributed to protecting user assets worth approximately 1.98 billion dollars (about 3 trillion won).
From the first quarter of last year to the first quarter of this year, it is estimated to have prevented fraud damage worth 10.53 billion dollars (approximately 15.8 trillion won) and protected over 5.4 million users.
Furthermore, it supported the recovery of assets worth 12.8 million dollars (approximately 19.2 billion won) and, in cooperation with global law enforcement agencies, assisted in the seizure of illegal funds totaling 131 million dollars (approximately 197 billion won).
A Binance official stated, "As AI crime technology rapidly evolves, we will continuously strengthen real-time detection, user protection, and overall educational systems to build a transparent and stable trading environment."
