U.Today reported that a bill has been proposed in Michigan, USA, that could restrict the expansion of the cryptocurrency mining industry. The outlet explained, “House Bill (HB 5882) grants local governments the authority to impose a moratorium on the construction of cryptocurrency mining facilities and large-scale data centers. The bill was proposed by State Representatives Miller, Dibbendorf, and Faiz, and is currently referred to the Government Operations Committee. The bill is a measure to address community concerns such as energy consumption, noise, and grid strain, with the key aim of allowing local governments to assess environmental and infrastructure impacts before the construction of mining facilities. The industry believes that if the bill is implemented, the pace of expansion of the mining industry within Michigan could slow down.”
