Upbit, the number one virtual asset exchange in Korea (operated by Dunamu), is setting an example for the industry by rolling up its sleeves to build essential medical infrastructure directly deployed in national disaster situations, going beyond simple monetary donations.
According to industry sources on the 28th, Dunamu held a vehicle handover ceremony for the Korean Red Cross Humanitarian Emergency Relief Unit (HERU) at the Seoul Red Cross Hospital on the 27th, donating a total of five emergency medical vehicles. Key figures, including Lee Su-min, Head of Dunamu's Impact Business Department, and Chae Dong-wan, Director of the Korean Red Cross Seoul Red Cross Hospital, attended the event.
The five special vehicles delivered will be immediately deployed to key Red Cross hospitals nationwide, including Seoul, Incheon, Sangju, Tongyeong, and Yeongju. The vehicles are fully equipped with advanced medical equipment to respond to emergencies. In the event of future disasters or calamities, they will be dispatched to the frontline to serve as 'mobile hospitals,' playing a crucial role in protecting the lives and health of disaster victims and relief workers.
This donation adds sincerity as it was made using 300 million won out of 1 billion won that Upbit generously contributed in March 2025 for the recovery of wildfire damage in the Yeongnam region. Upbit has consistently stepped up during national crises, including wildfires, floods, and drought damage in Gangneung, and has provided substantial support totaling approximately 2.57 billion won to the Korean Red Cross to date.
Dunamu's philosophy, which emphasizes corporate social responsibility (ESG), also stands out. To spread a culture of private sector participation in disaster response, Dunamu wrapped its 'Upbit' brand on the exterior of the donated vehicles. This move is seen as killing two birds with one stone: contributing to the strengthening of public safety networks while also enhancing public perception and trust in virtual asset exchanges.
Oh Kyung-seok, CEO of Dunamu, stated, "This support is highly significant as it contributes to building infrastructure that is practically utilized at disaster sites," reiterating his commitment to continue robust social contributions to strengthen community safety nets.
Chae Dong-wan, Medical Director, also responded, "These vehicles are a crucial foundation enabling rapid medical response at disaster sites," adding, "We will operate them systematically to ensure that precious donations translate into tangible disaster response capabilities." Upbit's responsible good deeds, continuing irrespective of market volatility, are redefining the standards of social contribution across the virtual asset industry.
