Bitcoin (BTC) is securing a strong support base and laying the groundwork for further price increases, bolstered by the resurgence of buying from U.S. institutional investors.
Crypto media outlet NewsBTC reported on April 27 (local time) that U.S. institutional investors are returning to the Bitcoin market in large numbers, driving the rally. On-chain analyst Darkfost emphasized in an X (formerly Twitter) post that U.S. institutional and professional investors have returned to the market and that prices are ready to rise further. The key indicator for this analysis is the Coinbase Premium Index, with the rationale being that the index has moved out of its prolonged negative territory and turned positive.
The Coinbase Premium Index is a metric that measures the price difference of Bitcoin between Coinbase and Binance. In this analysis, a volume-weighted index was used to better reflect the impact of large-scale transactions. Coinbase is the preferred exchange for U.S.-based institutional investors due to regulatory clarity and infrastructure. Therefore, a premium phenomenon where Coinbase's price is higher than Binance's is interpreted as a direct signal of large capital inflows.
According to Darkfost's analysis, the Coinbase Premium Index has shown a steady upward trend since early April. This indicates that the market is being supported by robust institutional-led demand rather than speculative buying driven by individual investors. Historical data shows that rallies based on institutional investor demand tend to be much more stable and sustained than those dependent on individual investor sentiment. Currently, the Bitcoin market is undergoing a fundamental shift towards institutional dominance, beyond a mere rebound.
Institutional buying acts as a powerful shield, offsetting market uncertainties. Although Bitcoin's price has recently been consolidating around the $77,525 mark, taking a breather, its lower support is stronger than ever. Experts are closely watching for the moment when the Coinbase Premium Index fully transitions to a clear upward trend. A further rise in the index is expected to be a decisive signal for Bitcoin to surpass its previous all-time high and move towards targets above $80,000.
The Bitcoin ecosystem is now entering a mature phase with the influx of institutional funds. As U.S. professional investors regain market leadership, price volatility is easing, and its position as a store of value is strengthening. Investors should focus on changes in institutional-centric on-chain indicators like the Coinbase Premium rather than short-term price fluctuations. The return of institutions is expected to be the most definitive driving force for Bitcoin to maintain a long-term bull market.
