According to CoinDesk, Jesse Pollak, a developer for Coinbase's Layer 1 chain Base, stated that "agentic payments," where AI can autonomously pay for services such as data access, computing resources, and travel bookings, will gain attention. In this regard, he added, "The x402 protocol is an open-source payment protocol being collaboratively developed by Coinbase, Microsoft, Google, Mastercard, and others, supporting payments with just an API call." He further stated, "To date, approximately $48 million in payments have occurred, with about 95% of these taking place on the BASE chain."
