A coalition of over 20 cryptocurrency companies and organizations, led by the US crypto lobbying group DeFi Education Fund (DEF), has requested the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to establish official regulations for DeFi interface-related guidelines. According to Eleanor Terrett, host of Crypto in America, they stated that it is difficult to ensure long-term regulatory clarity with only informal guidelines. Previously, the SEC had provided guidance that some DeFi front-ends and wallets might not be subject to broker-dealer regulations. However, the industry is concerned that if official regulations are not established, the SEC could expand the definition of a broker to include software developers in the future.
