A senior U.S. military official has stated that Bitcoin (BTC) can be used as a strategic 'power projection tool' for the United States, going beyond a simple financial asset.
According to crypto media outlet Cointelegraph, U.S. Navy Admiral Samuel Paparo evaluated Bitcoin as a “valuable computer science tool” during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, emphasizing its potential for national security applications.
Paparo stated, “Beyond its economic function, it has important computer science utility,” specifically pointing to its proof-of-work based structure, which demands high costs for network attacks, as a key strength.
He explained that Bitcoin's technical structure can provide strategic advantages in terms of cybersecurity. His judgment is that the structure itself, which requires immense resources if an attacker tries to compromise the network, acts as a defense mechanism.
Furthermore, Paparo also referred to Bitcoin as ‘power projection,’ meaning a means of expanding national influence. This is interpreted as a new type of strategic asset that can exert influence through a technology-based network, in addition to traditional military and economic power.
These remarks are considered an example showing that the perspective on Bitcoin is expanding beyond the financial realm to that of a national strategic asset. It is significantly meaningful that its technical structure's connection to security has been officially mentioned.
