According to the Associated Press, two regional officials told the AP on the 5th (local time) that Iranian and Omani negotiating delegations have agreed on a draft agreement and are currently awaiting final approval from Iran's Supreme Leader. According to these officials familiar with the negotiations, the potential agreement was prepared as a temporary solution to the dispute between the United States and Iran over maritime transportation issues in the Strait of Hormuz. This agreement is related to an accord signed in June this year by the United States and Iran to end the dispute and reopen the strait, but which ultimately was not implemented. They stated that this potential agreement would serve as a basis for the United States and Iran to resume negotiations for a final agreement on Tehran's nuclear program.
