An early Uber (UBER) investor argued that half of his Bitcoin (BTC) holdings should be sold and moved to Solana (SOL) and Bittensor (TAO). The judgment is that funds should be allocated to projects that create actual products.
According to crypto media outlet U.Today on August 4 (local time), early Uber investor Jason Calacanis once again revealed his critical stance on Bitcoin. Calacanis stated that if his brother held Bitcoin, he would have advised him to sell half and invest in “productive projects” like Solana and Bittensor.
Calacanis said, “Solana and Bittensor are not just putting out projects and promises, but actually delivering new products.” He joked that “a strong bottom has emerged” for Bitcoin, giving higher marks to blockchain projects that build real-world use cases.
Calacanis’s evaluation of Solana has changed significantly from before. At the end of 2024, he stated that he had “never held SOL” and claimed that no one had explained any meaningful use cases for the Solana network other than speculation. Even until early 2025, he only held Bitcoin, keeping a distance from Solana and XRP.
Recently, he has given positive evaluations, stating that entrepreneurs are developing actual products on Solana and Bittensor. However, he has not disclosed any Solana investment or a direct relationship with Solana Labs through his venture company.
While holding Bitcoin for a long time, Calacanis has strongly criticized the strategy of Michael Saylor, co-founder of MicroStrategy (MSTR). He argued that MicroStrategy has gained too much influence in the Bitcoin ecosystem, distorting the market’s explanatory structure. He urged investors to buy Bitcoin directly instead of MicroStrategy stock and pointed out that the company’s fundraising methods create unnecessary risks.
