According to Bitcoin News, Bitcoin developer Chris Guida announced that he has re-adjusted the 2017 Proof-of-Work (PoW) change code to match the latest Bitcoin Knots version, in case miners do not support the Bitcoin BIP-110 proposal. This proposal is intended as a last resort to replace the existing mining network if major mining pools are deemed not to support the BIP-110 soft fork. Luke Dashjr hopes that this plan will not actually be used, but stated that "it's better to be prepared in advance for any contingency." Supporters, including Mechanic, expressed approval for the pre-preparation of the code, arguing that the threat of a PoW change is necessary to ensure miners take responsibility towards node operators instead of dictating Bitcoin's rules. BIP-110 aims to limit non-monetary transactions such as Ordinals by reducing the data capacity that can be stored in Bitcoin transactions.
