Seoul Shinmun exclusively reported that KB Kookmin Bank is pushing to extend its real-name account partnership agreement with Bithumb, which expires on September 24, for another year. Bithumb has initiated the re-contracting process, including gathering opinions from relevant departments, ahead of the contract's expiration. A Kookmin Bank official stated, "Relevant procedures, such as discussions with financial authorities, are still pending." Previously, the two companies had set the re-contract period for six months in February, instead of the usual one year. This was intended to further monitor the results of financial authorities' inspections and improvements in internal controls, considering Bithumb's Bitcoin mispayment incident and police investigation.
