The United States and Iran are close to an agreement, but it requires final approval from U.S. President Donald Trump, Axios, an American political news outlet, reported. Axios explained, "Two U.S. officials stated that U.S. and Iranian negotiating teams have agreed to a 60-day memorandum of understanding (MOU) for an extension of the ceasefire and the commencement of negotiations regarding Iran's nuclear program. However, Trump's final approval has not yet been granted." If the MOU is signed, it would be the most significant diplomatic breakthrough since the outbreak of the war, but further intensive negotiations are needed to reach a final agreement that meets President Trump's nuclear-related demands. U.S. officials stated that this MOU includes a provision guaranteeing 'unrestricted' maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. One U.S. official explained that this means no collection of tolls or any obstructive actions, and Iran must remove all mines in the strait within 30 days.
