Michael Saylor directly addressed market concerns surrounding MicroStrategy's treasury model by stating that "Bitcoin prices will rise forever," even while acknowledging the possibility of selling some Bitcoin (BTC) within the year.
According to cryptocurrency media outlet Benzinga on May 26 (local time), Saylor, chairman of MicroStrategy, refuted concerns that the possibility of selling Bitcoin would weaken the company's financial strategy during a live Q&A hosted by Coin Stories' Natalie Brunell on May 22. He said, "I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that we could sell some Bitcoin between now and the end of the year."
Saylor emphasized that MicroStrategy's goal is to increase Bitcoin holdings per share and continuously raise enterprise value. He stated, "Five years ago, we had 50,000 Satoshis per share. Now we have over 200,000 Satoshis per share." Benzinga reported that speculation has recently grown among traders that MicroStrategy might need to sell Bitcoin to support STRC preferred stock dividends.
Saylor explained that the company continuously reviews four means for fundraising and capital management: stock sales, credit issuance, utilization of cash reserves, and Bitcoin sales. He argued that a strategy relying solely on one funding source would underperform in the long run.
A significant portion of the discussion focused on STRC. STRC is MicroStrategy's preferred dividend product, currently offering approximately an 11.5% yield. Saylor described STRC as the company's flagship security and stated that maintaining stability around the target price of $100 is a core operational goal for the company. MicroStrategy CEO Phong Le said, "We didn't just create a product. STRC is a platform."
Saylor also presented a vision to expand STRC into the digital credit market. He said, "What we are looking at is the literal digital transformation of the $300 trillion credit market." While acknowledging that several macroeconomic headwinds are contributing to Bitcoin's recent underperformance relative to stocks, he remained steadfast in his long-term bullish outlook. Saylor stated, "I expect the price of Bitcoin to go up forever."
