Kakao Pay Securities announced on the 26th that the number of newly opened return investment accounts (RIA) for domestic stocks has exceeded 50,000.
This is as of the 6th, just 45 days after its initial launch on March 23. Kakao Pay Securities explained, "This accounts for about a quarter of the approximately 200,000 RIA accounts in the entire industry."
Users showed a trend of reinvesting funds realized from overseas AI (artificial intelligence) and semiconductor stocks into domestic semiconductor and AI value chains through Kakao Pay Securities RIA.
The top overseas stocks deposited into RIA accounts by deposit amount were Nvidia, Tesla, SOXL (semiconductor 3x leveraged ETF), Alphabet, and Palantir, in that order. The top domestic stocks by purchase amount were Samsung Electronics [005930], SK Hynix [000660], TIGER Semiconductor TOP10 ETF, KODEX AI Power Core Equipment ETF, and Hyundai Motor [005380], in that order.
When classified by industry, AI and semiconductors accounted for the highest proportion at 19% among the top 40 overseas stocks in RIA account balances. Electric vehicles (8%) and big tech (6%) followed.
In domestic stocks, AI and semiconductors also showed the largest proportion at 16% among the top 30 stocks.
Kakao Pay Securities stated, "There is a trend of users with overseas stock investment experience expanding their investment scope to include representative domestic stocks and ETFs."
They also explained, "We believe that the simple account opening procedure also contributed to the spread of RIA. Existing Kakao Pay Securities comprehensive account holders can quickly open an RIA account in a similar way to pension savings and ISA (Individual Savings Account) accounts."
