Strait of Hormuz
A U.S. media reporter announced that the U.S. military launched airstrikes on Iran's Qeshm port and Bandar Abbas on the 7th (local time).
Reuters reported, "A Fox News reporter quoted a senior U.S. official in a post on X (formerly Twitter) stating this."
Previously, Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency reported that explosions were heard in Bandar Abbas in southern Iran and around Qeshm Island in the nearby Strait of Hormuz.
Furthermore, a source told Mehr that two unmanned aerial vehicles were shot down in Bandar Abbas.
Additionally, state-run IRIB TV stated, "The U.S. military attacked an Iranian oil tanker, and subsequently, enemy forces in the Strait of Hormuz were damaged by Iranian missile attacks and retreated," mentioning that U.S. warships were the target of the missiles.
Just the day before, U.S. media reported that the U.S. and Iran were close to signing a one-page Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) containing a truce agreement, and on the same day, President Trump also stated that the possibility of an agreement with Iran soon was "very high."
However, with reports from both countries' media of U.S. airstrikes and two unmanned aerial vehicles being shot down, tensions between the U.S. and Iran surrounding the Strait of Hormuz are escalating again.
Meanwhile, on the same day, a Chinese-owned oil tanker was attacked near the Strait of Hormuz for the first time since the outbreak of the U.S.-Iran conflict, Fox News reported, citing Chinese media Caixin.
The vessel had the phrase 'Chinese owned and Chinese crew' displayed, and a fire broke out on the ship's deck, but no crew injuries were confirmed, Fox News reported.
