Ripple has begun to fully adopt a strategy of bringing the traditional corporate treasury management market into the blockchain. As a result, it is projected that 30% of the annual $13 trillion payment flow could move on-chain within five years.
According to crypto media outlet The Crypto Basic on May 6 (local time), Ripple CEO Brad Garlinghouse stated during a conversation with Bullish CEO Tom Farley at Consensus 2026 in Miami that 30% of Ripple Treasury's annual payment volume of $13 trillion could transition on-chain within the next five years.
Garlinghouse explained that unlike other cryptocurrency companies, Ripple has chosen a strategy of bringing in companies from the traditional finance and corporate treasury management sectors, rather than just acquiring companies within the digital asset industry. He cited Ripple Treasury as an example, stating that the platform processed approximately $13 trillion in payments last year, but there were no payments using stablecoins or digital assets in 2025.
Garlinghouse stated that Ripple plans to gradually offer on-chain payment options to customers without forcing change. He explained that various customers, from Fortune 50 companies to mid-sized businesses, including American Airlines, are already managing liquidity and banking operations across multiple countries through the platform from a single dashboard.
He illustrated the limitations of traditional payment methods using the example of American Airlines paying for fuel in Peruvian sol. The current method relies on a single correspondent bank, takes four days, and is costly. However, Ripple Treasury can directly show options within its interface to process the same payment in real-time at a lower cost. Garlinghouse said the transition would be gradual and he expects 30% of the $13 trillion payment flow to move on-chain within five years.
Ripple acquired GTreasury for $1 billion in October 2025, and the transaction was completed in early December 2025. Headquartered in Chicago, GTreasury is a company with over 40 years of corporate treasury management experience, serving over 1,000 clients in 160 countries. In late January 2026, Ripple unveiled Ripple Treasury, which combines GTreasury's treasury management system with Ripple's digital asset technology.
Ripple Treasury is designed to manage traditional cash, RLUSD, and tokenized assets on a single platform. The Crypto Basic reported that Ripple is connecting blockchain capabilities to the existing corporate treasury management market through non-crypto company acquisitions, and the $13 trillion payment flow, which had no on-chain payments in 2025, could become Ripple's key expansion stage in the coming years.
