The US Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has issued a warning regarding Iran's demand for toll payments from vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The warning states that while Iran may demand digital assets (virtual assets) as payment for tolls in the Strait of Hormuz, making such payments constitutes a violation of US sanctions. It also mentioned that US persons cannot transact with Iranian digital asset exchanges, and these exchanges are considered 'Iranian financial institutions' subject to sanctions. If a non-US person uses an Iranian virtual asset exchange, it may be considered support for Iran's financial sector, leading to secondary sanctions that block access to the US financial system.
